Our aim is to preserve and develop the extensive urban and rural footpath network that exists within our area. As the oldest surviving footpath society in the UK we have over 100 years of experience and history to call upon on your behalf.
All of our work is done by volunteers so, whether you are a rambler, a stroller, a fell walker or a dog walker we can help each other. Our work helps you to enjoy your walking and your support will assist our efforts to protect and improve the footpath network for everybody. We are currently the only regional walking based society that covers Derbyshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside that has ‘prescribed organisation’ status.
Our Society is made up of people like you with a common passion for walking. Whether it’s a walk over fells and hills or using an urban path to get to the shops, taking our children to school or exercising our dogs, walking is part of our lives. We value our rights, embodied in the law, to walk the rich tapestry of footpaths our local towns and countryside has to offer.
